Jacob Szekely Artistic Director
The son of renowned painter George Szekely, Jacob began his musical studies in New York City at the age of three. Soon thereafter, Jacob’s family moved to Lexington, Kentucky, where both of his parents received appointments at the University of Kentucky. This relocation facilitated Jacob’s interest in bluegrass, folk music, and the Blues, jacob-biopicproviding the basis for his interest in alternative styles of string playing.

By the age of 15, Jacob had performed his first commercial recording and became a regular performer at local venues including the Kentucky Theater and the Paramount where he regularly shared the stage with such artists as Joan Baez, Ritchie Havens, Don McClean, Mark O’Connor, and Michael Jonathon.

Since moving to Los Angeles in 2001 to pursue a masters degree in cello performance at the University of Southern California, Jacob has performed and recorded with such artists as Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z, John Brion, Bruce Hornsby, Ellie Goulding, Averil Lavigne, Oingo Boingo and Rush to name a few. Mr. Szekely’s flexibility and musicality have also led him to a highly successful studio career. In just the past few years He has been a featured soloist on such television shows as Battlestar Gallactica, The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Human Target, and has recorded hundreds of cues for television and film.

In addition to his work with Supernova, Jacob is also active as a sideman and performer with his own groups including the music supergroup Quartetto Nuevo and his own Indie/Chamber/Jazz trio (JS3) whose debut album was released in October 2013 to international critical acclaim.


Andrea Whitt Artistic Director
Andrea Whitt is an exceptionally versatile violist, trained in classical, jazz and rock genres. Her passion for jazz and improvisation began in college while performing in a Brazilian jazz ensemble and studying intensely under top jazz pedagogues. Andrea received her Bachelor andrea-biopicand Master of Music degrees in viola performance at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Currently, Andrea is a member of Shania Twain’s band performing on viola and fiddle. As a Yamaha artist, she also performs on electric viola.

Andrea has performed with other artists including Stevie Wonder, Deep Purple, Far East Movement, Snoop Dog, Harry Connick Jr, Cee-Lo Green, One Republic, John Legend, Kelly Rowland and Natalie Cole.

Television credits include: The Ellen Degeneres Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Billboard Music Awards, Latin Grammys The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson, The Cape, and a featured role as a violist on a Cricket Wireless national commercial.

A pioneer in creative string pedagogy and performance, Andrea was commissioned to write two pieces for the 2010 International Viola Congress in Cincinnati, Ohio. As a guest clinician for schools and music conferences, she instructs young string players in improvisation and multi-genre performances.
